Your light will rise in the darkness, and your shadows will become like noon. God will always guide you, giving relief in desert places.

Isaiah 58:10b-11

Today’s challenge: name one person who has never felt darkness surround them. Think hard, think of the people who are “the cup half-full” type. Think of your heroes, those you admire and would like to emulate. Think of the Saints who have gone before us. Think of Moses, of Ruth, of David, of Mary. Think of Jesus.

It’s not possible, is it? Even Jesus, our best teacher, the Messiah, felt overwhelming darkness – “take this cup away from me” – I don’t want to do this, it’s too much, do I have to?

No human being will sail through life without sadness, pain, hurt, or wounds. Today’s scripture passage affirms this reality. But it’s doing so with promise and hope.

We are reminded today that when we welcome God, the source of all Love, into our lives the darkness will be lightened. My friends, Love is lighter and more powerful than any conflict, despair, hopelessness we can imagine. We are NOT alone. The One who walks with us will never leave us in darkness. God will always bring us through the inevitable hard times and create a new light for us to see, feel, and share!
